Primary Sports Premium

Primary Sports Premium is ring-fenced money for improving PE in primary schools.

As a locally based Trust, we have the opportunity to develop the PE offered to primary aged children across the Trust, using the Primary Sports Premium and PE Grant. Our use of the grant focuses on five key areas.

1. Improve the engagement of all pupils in regular physical activity.

  • Primary PE Lead and sports coaches to enhance or extend current opportunities through after-school clubs and activities over lunchtimes.
  • Support and involve the least active children by providing targeted activities, through after-school clubs and activities over lunchtimes.
  • Support midday Meal Supervisors on games and resources to promote activity during lunchtimes.
  • Catch up swimming for Year 6 children who have not achieved 25m in summer term post SATs.

2. Increase the profile of PE and sport across the school (and Trust) as a tool for whole-school improvement.

  • Student sports leadership opportunities (e.g. Play Leaders)
  • Recognition for sporting achievements (e.g. awards in assemblies)
  • Inter-academy competition, sports festivals and events
  • Athlete visits to schools
  • Subscription to Jack Hunt Sports Network and Inspire+

3. Increased confidence, knowledge and skills of all staff in teaching PE and sport.

  • Provide staff with professional development, mentoring, training and resources to help them teach PE and sport more effectively
  • Run staff CPD sessions as requested
  • Primary PE leads network meeting
  • Team teaching, planning and PE assessment

4. Provide a broader range of sports and activities offered to all pupils.

  • Use of secondary sporting facilities.
  • Cross Academy clubs, not normally provided at primary (e.g. trampolining)
  • Promotion and links with local sports clubs and coaches. (e.g. wrestling, ECB Cricket Stars)
  • Mini Cadets as part of the Combined Cadet Force and Young Pioneer Scheme

5. Increased participation in competitive sport.

  • Trust leagues and fixtures (football/netball/cricket)
  • Trust sports festivals link to current curriculum provision, during curriculum time (e.g. dodgeball festival for 30 Year 2 children from each school, hosted at a secondary within the Trust.
  • Trust sporting academies based at secondary schools for more able (e.g. Trust Football Academy e.g. current girls’ football academy involving POSH;  ECB Cricket Academy)
